Ryan's Recital

On Thursday night we trekked out to Monroe to go watch Ryan's music class recital. It was a lot of fun, here are a few clips from the show. In the first two, Ryan is in the second row on the left in front of the boy in the white button down shirt. Sorry...in one of the clips the music teacher stood right in front of him. Plus, while the camera video is pretty good, the quality of the zoom is not the best for this. You get the picture though. :)

The clip below is Ryan's "Haiku" set to music. The music teacher was SOOOOO excited about this that it made me start giggling at an inapropriate time. Ryan got to read the haiku and play some instruments.

We had a great time and were happy to be included in the night!!

Basketball last weekend....

They are a little delayed, but here are the promised videos from Ryan's basketball games last weekend. He has been doing a great job of pushing the ball up the court...not very many kids his age can throw the ball that far up the court....much to Dad's happiness. :)

Below is one of their inbound plays...Ryan takes a little dive. :)

This is my favorite...check out Ryan's reaction after the pass....I think I have seen his dad make that same move on the sidelines coaching. ha ha ha

Quick Update

Hi Y'all!

Just wanted to post a quick update on what is going on in the Witt's world...

Derek flew off to Buffalo last week to start his new job....and unfortunately HATED it....for many reasons. So we scratched that plan and have moved on to plans B & C. Plan B (and mine and Derek's favorite) is to go to work for the Seattle Storm, the WNBA team here in Seattle. They have a sales account manager spot open and Derek had a phone interview while in Buffalo and a second interview (he is in the final 2) on Tuesday. He is very excited about this opportunity and so am I! He will find out Monday....keep your fingers crossed! If that doesn't work out then he will move on to Plan C which is one of the jobs that he was offered a couple of weeks ago, Derek called him last week to let him know the Buffalo thing wasn't going to work, and the guy agreed to meet with him next Tuesday......so that is the update on Derek! In his time off, he has "enjoyed" cleaning the house, doing laundry and making me dinner....I could get used to this...lol.

Ryan had a basketball game last week, and I unfortunately forgot the camera, which turned out to be ok, because they lost pretty bad. Ryan is improving his point guard skills and beginning to look up the court when he is dribbling. :) He had 2 points. I will bring the camera tomorrow, and hopefully have some good footage for Monday.

Peanut and I are getting along fabulously...we went to the doctor a week or so ago and things are looking pretty good. I had some high blood pressure and have started to have swelling in my hands and feet, but nothing too concerning. Next Dr. appointment I have to do the gestational diabetes test (standard at this point of pregnancy), in which you have to drink some gross juice (many many of my friends have vouched for the grossness of the juice! I have fruit punch flavored, so I will let you know how it goes) and then do a blood test to check for diabetes. For some reason I am a little nervous about this test....I haven't been for the rest of the tests, not even the down syndrome one, but as a "big girl", this just makes me nervous.

The worst part of the swelling?? I had to take my wedding ring off. :( I miss my bling bling, but my Mom had to have her wedding ring cut off when she was prego and I don't want that to happen. So I got a ring from a street vendor in Vancouver and that is doing the trick. I had a tough time walking around without it on...mostly because I didn't want to look like I got knocked up before getting married. LOL!

Last night Derek and I met some friends and went to the Attic, a bar in Madison Park to watch the huskies take on UCLA. I wore my crimson (non-wsu) sweatshirt to be sure to represent my true colors, but I did root for the huskies. The bar was really loud with everyone cheering the huskies on and Peanut went nuts. She was kicking and moving like crazy! For pretty much the entire game. I think this means one of two things....she likes Husky baketball (much to Grandpa's delight), or she was pissed off to high hell that it was that loud and she couldn't sleep.

I feel like I have gotten a lot bigger in the past week, Charlotte, you will be happy to know that my belly sticks out farther than my boobs. lol. I have started to feel some minor discomfort, but I pretty sure it is nothing compared to what is to come. I will have Derek take a picture this weekend so you can see for yourself.

Well, apparently my "quick update" was not so quick! I had a lot to fill you in on! :)

Funny Story

While we were in Vancouver, we stopped at a bar before we went out for dinner. We sat next to two rather intoxicated young men, one of which insisted that instead of moving his coat, Derek should sit on it.....okayyyyy. Whatever.
After a few minutes of sitting there, Derek and one of the guys started chatting and Derek discovered that he is a hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks, they were in town to play the Vancouver Canucks. Now, let me preface this by saying that neither Derek or myself know anything about hockey (even though Derek was named after a hockey player). So we chatted with that guy for a little while, he was very nice, but again, very intoxicated. Then he got up to use the restroom and we look at his friend and say "so do you play hockey too?", this seemed an innocent question, the guy looks at us and says "no, I am just this guys buddy". When the other guy returned from the restroom we talked some more and he starts to tell us how great of a hockey player the guy sitting next to him is. Turns out his name (the guy who said he didn't play hockey) is Patrick Kane, he was the first overall draft pick in 2007 and started in the NHL allstar game this year, he is his teams leading scorer. "DO YOU PLAY HOCKEY????" Derek and I felt like such idiots. It is like asking Michael Jordan "do you play basketball?" we felt a little on the stupid side to say the least. The other guy we were talking to was Dustin Byfuglien, not nearly as impressive...lol.
Bottom line is we went to Canada and met some famous hockey players...not bad eh?

Weekend in Vancouver...

Derek and I had a much needed weekend away....I have not had vacation since August and needed a few days away from the office, plus Derek leaves for training at his new job today, so it was the perfect opportunity for us to spend some quality time together.

We decided for a little adventure to take the train! It left at 8:07 Friday morning and we got to Vancouver at around 11:30am. I have to say....I LOVED taking the train! Crossing the border was a piece of cake, we sat and played cards almost the entire time. The best part about it was that since I have to pee every 10 seconds we didn't have to pull over to use the bathroom!

Above is the train station in Edmonds, below is the one in Vancouver. From the station below, we walked across the street and caught the Vancouver Sky Train (aka subway) and it took us to a stop right across the street from the Hyatt where we stayed (for free...neener neener!)

Below is us on the train...I look terrible, but this is where we spen the majority of our trip...in the diner car playing cards.

We didn't do a whole lot while we were up there, we walked around and saw the sites, we went and saw a movie on Saturday. We really just enjoyed spending time together. Below is Derek drinking for the 2 of us....a long island iced tea "fish bowl"! Happy hour special!

Here is me getting on the train to head home.

3D is cool!

So every job has it's perks....my job, I can get my friends upgrades and discounts on hotel rooms. Chad can probably get someone a "behind the scenes" look at a movie set. My Mom, however, got us a free 3D ultrasound. Each perk has it's time and place, and my Mom has been waiting 20+ years to cash hers in....so here are the results!
The ultrasound tech started off taking pics similar to those we have had before, she took all kind of body measurements and different angles. We all kind of thought that she had forgotten about the 3D part, but she was just taking her time with the measurements. She then would "crop" a section of one of the 2D pictures and then it would convert to 3D. My pictures below are pictures of pictures, so they are not so clear, but we have the DVD that is much clearer for those of you interested.
Peanut was really active, she was moving her hands in front of her face...just enough to blur some of the pictures...lol. We got a live action Yawn which just made my heart melt. I didn't know babies could yawn without any air! After a while, she just got tired of us invading her space and put both arms up in front of her face like she has had enough with the pictures already! :) Overall it was a very fun experience.....thanks Mom!!
Who do you think she looks like? In the pic above, it looks like she has Derek's chin and my chipmunk cheeks. She also looks a little like Ryan in his baby pics.
This is her leaning on her arm.
Sorry they are a bit blurry.

Super Bowl...

For the Super Bowl, we went over to Mom's house....out TV is WAY to small to watch the big game. Thanks Mom for hosting and providing dinner, snacks and of course....the 3D glasses!

Backyard Basketball...

We went to Ryan's basketball game on Saturday, thankfully, it was at 11:20, so I got to sleep in a bit. Normally after the game, we run home, have a couple hours, then Derek goes off to Shoreline to set up for the game, since this didn't happen, Derek and Ryan spent a couple of hours playing hoops int he back yard. Yes, it was actually sunny (not to be confused with warm!). I didn't get any good clips from the Ry's game in the morning, so I thought I would give this a shot. I got this video from inside the back door...they didn't know I was filming, but thought this was a cute little snippet of their time together.

The End of an Era...

I am very sad to report that Derek is finished coaching (for now), this has been a wild, emotional roller coaster of a season, that unfortunately is over. For many years, Derek has put his heart and soul into coaching Junior College kids, trying to help them become better basketball players and better people, being there for them when their own families are not. He loves the sport and he loves the kids. Shoreline has taken from him something that he loves, the school is dysfunctional from top to bottom, especially within the atheletic department. Coaches there are set up to fail. They are paid a measly salary that barely covers the cost of working there.

Derek has been interviewing for the past several weeks, and accepted a job at Inlighten, we are both excited for a new opportunity, and with our baby on the way, this offers a lot more stability for us financially.

I love my husband and love watching him coach and am sad that this chapter is over for now. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for us ....
